When you’re planning a round-the-world (RTW) trip, there are a few things to keep in mind. Here are some do’s for the hitchhiker:
- Plan your route ahead of time. This will help you budget your time and money, and make sure you hit all the places you want to see.
- Research different transportation options – planes, trains, buses, boats – so that you can find the best way to get around each country.
- Pack light! You’ll be doing a lot of walking and traveling between different modes of transport, so it’s important to pack only what you need.
- Make sure your passport is up-to-date and that you have all the necessary visas for the countries on your itinerary.
- Get travel insurance in case of any unexpected emergencies or accidents while on your trip.
As a hitchhiker, there are some things you should avoid doing in order to make your travels easier and more pleasant. Here are five don’ts for the hitchhiker:
- Don’t stand on the side of the road with your thumb out for too long. If you haven’t been picked up after a half hour or so, move to a spot where there is more traffic. You’ll increase your chances of being seen by drivers this way.
- Don’t wear inappropriate clothing when hitchhiking – no short skirts or tank tops! Dress in clothes that will make you visible and that won’t embarrass you if someone sees you picking up rides from strangers.
- Don’t be picky about who offers you a ride – sometimes it’s better to take whatever ride is available instead of waiting for “the perfect one.”
- Don’t sit in the middle of the road when trying to hitch a ride – find somewhere off to the side where drivers can pull over easily without having to stop in traffic first.
- And finally, don’t forget to have fun while hitching rides! It can be an interesting experience getting around this way and it provides an opportunity meet new people.
